Incredible India!

I had planned to be in India for more than 1 wedding. Given the long distance, I try to see more of India and one such deviation took me to Fort Kochi! Old European charm at a fraction of the cost for starters! Mid June and so, it was hot but hey it was also the thick of the mango season!

Trip highlights included Tadoba for Tigers of course!, Fort Kochi, Nagpur, Nagerkoil and of course Chennai!

GREAT K V Kathakali centre!

On culture front, I got to visit GREAT K V Kathakali centre! in Fort Kochi!

If you love Indian classical dance or photography, this experience is unforgettable. The costumes, expressions, and makeup are mesmerizing — a result of years of dedication by the artists.

The theater entrance is a bit tucked away, but don’t let that stop you. Inside, it’s fully air-conditioned, with comfortable seating and a great view of the stage.

Arrive early to explore the beautiful temple space below and enjoy the evening pooja. The flower arrangements, kolam, and lamp-lighting add a divine touch.

What really sets this experience apart is the short demo before the main show — explaining Kathakali’s history, facial expressions, and makeup. It adds so much depth to the performance.

Best of all, they perform every single day, even for just one guest. That level of commitment is rare and deeply moving.

This was the highlight of our visit to Fort Kochi. Highly recommended — we wished we had time to return for a second evening.
